SAS Nagar: Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Mrs Sonam Chaudhry orders the urban local bodies for early purchase ambulance-cum-animal lifter vehicles for their respective areas during the meeting of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar.
Reviewing the activities of the SPCA, ADC Chaudhry asked the urban local bodies to start the animal birth control program to curb the population of stray dogs in their areas. She said that delay in starting the program will held responsible, the concerned officials for the rise in dog bite cases. Similarly, the Animal Husbandry Department was asked to increase the number of monthly Anti-rabies camps from one a month to two to vaccinate the stray dogs with anti-rabies medicine.
Taking stock of the Infirmary coming up at Lalru (Magra Cattle Pound), she directed the Lalru MC to complete the enclosures as early as possible to keep sick and injured animals there. She said that the enclosures should be species and size-wise so that the animals would not feel uncomfortable during their upkeep there. The EO Lalru was also urged to transfer the title deed of the land under the infirmary in the name of SPCA.
EO Lalru Gurbaksish Singh was also asked to take the work of cleanliness of slurry pits at Magra Cattle Pound to run the bio-mass-based electricity generator at its full capacity. This generator generates 10 KV of electric power.
The areas like Ecocity and Aerocity, which come under the jurisdiction of GMADA were also discussed about the launch of the Animal Birth Control campaign, in the meeting and it was decided to write the Department of Housing and Urban Development for this.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Dr Shiv Kant Gupta, representatives of urban local bodies and non-official members of the society.
