Haryana will be first state in country to implement the New Education Policy - Governor Bandaru Dattatraya

Chandigarh:Haryana Governor, Bandaru Dattatraya stated that education is an investment that secures the future of society and individuals.Governor, Dattatraya was addressing Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of state universities on the first day of a two-day review meeting held at Raj Bhavan today.

He emphasised that the New Education Policy (NEP) will prove to be a game-changer for the Indian education system and expressed confidence that Haryana will have the honour of being the first state in the country to fully implement the NEP.

He further said that the scope of the NEP 2020 is vast and flexible, aiming to provide world-class quality and employment-oriented education to the youth within a set time frame.

The meeting also discussed serious matters such as the swift implementation of the NEP across the state, ensuring transparent and merit-based recruitment against regular positions in universities, and the adoption of two villages by each university under the ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’, the Governor added.

Governor, Sh. Dattatraya said that universities should collaborate with leading global universities and encourage students to pursue studies abroad as well.


Apart from this, he emphasised the need for universities to introduce new courses in fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotic Process Automation, Edge Computing, Quantum Computing, Virtual Reality, Cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things. This would enable students to start their own startups and become job creators after completing their education.

The Governor also praised the efforts of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, and Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, in implementing the NEP, advising other universities to follow them.He also appreciated the 70 percent campus placement achievement by Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Palwal.

Governor, Sh. Dattatraya said that Haryana is the sports capital of the country, with its youth winning more medals at the international level than any other state.

Therefore, he encouraged universities to develop international-level sports infrastructure and also assured the Vice-Chancellors that any pending university matters at the government level would be approved swiftly.

Notably, on Monday, the Union Ministry of Education released the ranking of the top 50 government universities in the country.

Four universities from Haryana made the list. Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak secured the 35th position, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra was at the 41st position, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar was at the 47th position, and Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar was at the 48th position.

The Governor extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the vice-chancellors of these universities, their entire teams, and the students.The Governor also congratulated and wished all vice-chancellors and registrars for their outstanding work in the field of education. He expressed hope that students would study with even more dedication and hard work in the new academic session.

Chief Secretary, Sh. T.V.S.N. Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department, Dr. Raja Sekhar Vundru, Director General, Medical Education and Research Department, Sh. Saket Kumar, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, Dr. D. Suresh, Secretary to Governor, Sh. Atul Dwivedi, Director, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Sh. Rajnarayan Kaushik, Chairperson, Haryana State Higher Education Council, Dr. Kailash Chandra Sharma, Vice President of Haryana State Higher Education Council Prof. S.K. Gakhar and Vice Chancellors and Registrars of state universities also remained present.
