"Constitution a living progressive document," President Droupadi Murmu addresses Parliament on Constitution Day

New Delhi : President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday addressed the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on Constitution Day, emphasizing the significance of the Indian Constitution in shaping the nation.


"Today, we are all part and partners of a historic event. Seventy-five years ago, the Constitutional Council completed a major task of creating a Constitution for a newly independent country in this very centre of the Constitutional Council,' she said.


She further highlighted, "Our Constitution is a living and progressive document. Through our Constitution, we have achieved the goals of social justice and inclusive development."
The President also lauded the government's efforts, stating, "In the last few years, the government has taken several steps for the welfare of all sections of society, especially the weaker sections. The poor are getting their own houses and world-class infrastructure is being developed in the country.."


Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar also spoke on the occasion, and called it a "momentous day marks a historic milestone." "This momentous day marks a historic milestone as we celebrate 75 years since Bharat adopted its constitution, a remarkable achievement for the world's largest and most dynamic democracy. Our nation thrives with remarkable economic growth, robust infrastructure, and widespread digital adoption, all getting international recognition and accolades..


These achievements are vindication that our Constitution has effectively anchored Indian democracy," he said. President Droupadi Murmu released a commemorative postage stamp on the occasion of 75 years of the Constitution of India at Samvidhan Sadan.


President Droupadi Murmu also released two books related to the Constitution of India on the occasion of 75 years of the Constitution of India at Samvidhan Sadan. The book titled, "Making of the Constitution of India: A Glimpse" and "Making of the Constitution of India & its Glorious Journey" released.


Additionally, President Murmu released the Sanskrit and Maithili copy of Constitution. President Droupadi Murmu, joined by other prominent leaders, collectively recited the Preamble to the Indian Constitution.
